What is Leeuwarden Student Sport?

Leeuwarden Student Sport is an integral part of Leeuwarden Student City (LSC), which aims to make your student time as enjoyable, fun and unforgettable as possible. With this goal in mind, Leeuwarden Student City was founded in December 1999 by the educational institutions NHL, Stenden University of Applied Sciences and Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences. In the meantime, NHL and Stenden Hogeschool have joined forces and merged, Van Hall Larenstein is still around, and Campus Fryslân of the University of Groningen and Firda have also joined us.

Within the vision of the Leeuwarden Student City Foundation and Leeuwarden Student Sport, sport is central as an essential factor for student achievement. Often the lifestyle of young people changes when they start studying, living on their own and working. As a result, many stop playing sports, whereas before it was a habit. Therefore, Leeuwarden Student Sport offers a quality and accessible sports program for students in Leeuwarden.

Core values such as fun, challenge, health, meeting and relaxation are paramount at Leeuwarden Student Sport. The mission is to create a safe and attractive sports and exercise climate for students in Leeuwarden and surrounding areas, contributing to the attractiveness of Leeuwarden as a student city.

Meet the team

Who are we?

Leeuwarden Student City consists of a small and close team of employees who work closely together with the best parties, educational institutions in Leeuwarden, and of course, the best students. These enthusiastic students organize cool events and projects with us or do an internship with us. Sporty students give sports lessons and other research about what’s going on among the students, so we can identify their needs and wishes and respond to them.

Located on the Knowledge Campus, adjacent to the square of NHL Stenden, Leeuwarden Student Sport is located in a lively environment with fitness facilities, catering, and student residential complexes. Sporthal Rengers, adjacent to the campus, serves as the main location for indoor activities. This environment fosters a dynamic study and work climate.

Student Sports Leeuwarden is open to mbo, hbo and wo students in Leeuwarden. The offer is diverse with more than 50 different sports activities, including hall sports, fitness, club sports, clinics, and more. With one sports pass, all of this can be explored.
